Can an international student apply for Certificate programs?
 
Yes. International students may apply  for Diploma/Certificate programs  But in order to get
student visa one  must request  an I-20 Form (F-1 student Visa form) from the Office of Admissions.
The I-20 Form is the certificate of eligibility for non-immigrant student status for academic and/or language  study.

 All international students must follow the visa application procedure outlined below:
 1. Once you have received notice of admission to VIU, you must obtain an I-20 or IAP-66 form from VIU.
     Forms may be  requested by post, e-mail, fax, or phone.
 2. Apply to the U.S. embassy in your country for a student visa.
 3. Show proof of financial support (as described under "Requirements for Admission" ).
 4. Obtain related VIU documents to show to the U.S. Consul as proof that your sole purpose for entry to the U.S. is to  attend VIU.
 5. Complete and return the visa application form together with the payment slip, I-20 or IAP-66 Form, current passport,
     one extra passport photograph, proof of financial support, and evidence that you plan to return to your
     country of  residence upon completion of your education.
