Here at VIU, we believe that placement of our graduates in appropriate jobs is an important component of our program’s success. Throughout your time at VIU, you will have ample opportunity to meet with Office of Career Services (OCS) staff who will help you develop and refine your job search skills. Quickly, you will learn how OCS can assist you in realizing your career potential and finding rewarding job opportunities. 

OCS offers students a full range of individualized and group-oriented career counseling services. Some of the programs OCS offers are:

  • A career counseling handbook provided to each VIU student;
  • Information sessions for students to familiarize themselves with the employment options that are legally available to international students in the United States. These options include Optional Practical Training (OPT) and Curricular Practical Training (CPT);
  • Regularly-scheduled career development workshops that focus on particular job search skills. Topics for these workshops include resume-writing, cover letter-writing, interview skills, and personal skills assessment;
  • Videotaping of “mock” student interviews;
  • “Shadowing” of professionals in students’ desired fields; and
  • Assistance in job placement, including on-campus recruiting and employer information sessions.
