Laura Hills, MA University Advancement Executive Director Laura Hills is a published author, consultant, lecturer, scholar, musician, and teacher. She is the author of three successful business books: Do-It-Yourself Marketing for the Professional Practice (Prentice-Hall, 1986), The Professional Practice Problem Solver (Prentice-Hall, 1992) and How to Recruit, Motivate, and Manage a Winning Staff: A Medical Practice How-To Guidebook with CD-ROM (Greenbranch, 2004). Ms. Hills has published more than 100 journal articles in prestigious business publications that include Doctor's Tax Report, Physician Manager, Review of Optometry, Journal of Chiropractic, Professional Corporation Advisor, and Physicians Financial News. She is a seasoned public speaker and has presented teleconferences, seminars, and workshops throughout the country. Ms. Hills has been a featured columnist on human resources for The Journal of Practice Management for more than seven years. She is also a contributor to ESL Magazine, a refereed journal for ESL professionals. Ms. Hills holds a Master's of Arts in English/Literature from George Mason University, where she is currently pursuing a Doctor of Arts in Higher Education/English as a Second Language. She holds her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Rutgers College, where she graduated cum laude, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and was awarded the school's freshman prize for grammar and spelling. Ms. Hills is also a licensed high school English teacher and formerly taught high school English and drama and directed the school musical. Ms. Hills is an accomplished pianist and composer and teaches music appreciation to senior citizens at assisted living and skilled nursing facilities in Northern Virginia. She makes her home with her husband and their three daughters in Fairfax, VA.
