Orientation Guide
We are excited to meet you during New Student Orientation and welcome you to the VIU Family!
Please remember, the New Student Orientation program is on January 4, 2012. You may arrive to the US after December 9, 2011.
Attendance at the Student Orientation is mandatory for all new students, including Transfer-In students. Failure to attended orientation could result in the inability to register for classes.
Why Should I Go?
- Check in with an Admission Officer (as required by USCIS)
- Meet fellow VIU students and staff
- Gain access to various on-and-off-campus programs and services
- Take part in a campus tour
- Register for classes
Things to do before Orientation:
- Check your email often for orientation confirmations and updates
- Browse orientation.viu.edu to answer your orientation questions
- Prepare to bring copies of legal and admission related documents
Items to bring to Orientation:
- Copies of your transcripts and test scores
- Passport
- Visa (stamped)
- I-94 card (you will receive this document when you enter the US)
- I-20s (Transfer students: Please bring all of your I-20s from previous schools!)
Within the next few weeks we will be sending out information regarding the VIU Facebook community Group. Facebook is a social networking website that is very popular among college students. By adding our group you will be able to connect with other new international students, as well as with current international and US students.
If this will be your first time studying in the United States, you may want to consider attending a pre-departure orientation in your home country. These orientations are organized by EducationUSA, which is a network supported by the US Department of State.
