Admissions and International Student Services Officer

Virginia International University is seeking an experienced and energetic full-time Admissions and International Student Services Officer for our growing population of international undergraduate and graduate students in our Fairfax, VA office!

Admissions responsibilities include:

  • Analyze qualifications of prospective students utilizing established University admissions standards, guidelines and criteria.
  • Ensure completion of student admissions files.
  • Create and update student files, check admission documents, and determine admissibility of prospective students to the University.
  • Correspond with prospective students, applicants, University alumni, guidance counselors and others seeking information on admissions standards, academic and non-academic programs.
  • Represent VIU while participating in student recruitment events.
  • Answer daily admission inquiries by email, phone, and in person.
  • Complete initial registration process.
  • Assist with the administration of Placement Testing.
  • Extensive data entry duties.

International Student Services responsibilities include:

  • Maintain F-1 visa related administrative work.
  • Provide guidance to students regarding F-1 student status procedures and policies. This includes assisting students and staff in person, over the phone, and by email with inquiries and matters related to the ISS Office or Registrar's Office.
  • Issue I-20s.
  • Update student information on all VIU database systems and in the SEVIS database, as well as, update the corresponding internal reports and systems ensuring all necessary documentation is received.
  • Educate students on the process of reinstatement, update the corresponding internal reports and systems, and collect all necessary documentation.
  • Issue official documentation for students relating to the ISS Office.
  • Research immigration relations and ensure ISS Office is following current procedures and aware of all changes. Develop and maintain regular updates of the ISS Office handbook.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Admissions or ISS/DSO experience in an educational environment including successful experience in SEVIS reporting.
  • Must have previous training on F1 regulations, immigration, legal issues, change of status, and other international student issues.
  • Prior training on SEVIS database and NAFSA conference preferred.
  • Significant overseas living and study/work experience, and proficiency in a foreign language preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.
  • Accuplacer experience preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills (native-like English verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with a highly diverse group of students and staff.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to excel in a demanding, outcome oriented and dynamic work environment.
  • Skilled in the use of office software application and other technology.

Administrative Coordinator– President's Office

Virginia International University is seeking a full-time Administrative Coordinator to provide support to the President's Office. This position will report to the University's President in our Fairfax, VA office.

Responsibilities:

  • Development, support, and coordination as a representative of the President’s Office to external contacts.
  • Support and coordinate internal communication within the organization as representative of the President’s Office.
  • Support regular review of operating practices and procedures to develop and improve the University’s internal and external communication, policies, and overall public image.
  • Promote the President’s Office via traditional and social media to create awareness and a positive image. Provide internal and external press releases and agendas on behalf of the President’s Office.
  • Manage all communications on behalf of the President’s Office. Screen and respond to incoming e-mails, calls, and mail from internal and external contacts.
  • Arrange and coordinate executive meetings, visits and events in support of networking and public relations. Build relationships with external contacts on behalf of the President’s Office.
  • Coordinate all University Board of Trustee Meetings. Prepare documentation, presentations, and other reports for purposes of providing informational content that reflect the University’s public image.
  • Manage President’s Office budget and purchases.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university; PhD preferred
  • 2-3 years of administrative experience
  • Event planning experience and project management experience highly desirable
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well within a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment

Full-Time Professor - School of Computer Information Systems

Virginia International University is seeking an experienced Full-Time Professor to teach on ground and possibly online courses, develop and design online courses and support our School of Computer Information Systems at our Fairfax, VA campus.

The Full-Time Professor will be responsible for teaching 8 - 10 courses each academic year, developing and designing online courses, supporting the School of Computer Information Systems in advising students, academic and program development, and participating in instructional effectiveness processes.

Duties Include:

  • Teaching 8-10 courses over 4 academic semesters
  • Student advising
  • Teaching and/or coordinating seminars and orientations
  • Overseeing student internships and fellowships
  • Supporting the Dean in resolving faculty/student matters
  • Providing assistance to students facing academic obstacles
  • Coordinating and/or supporting student clubs, events, and off-campus activities
  • Implementing new concentrations and majors
  • Researching and selecting textbooks for classes
  • Organizing materials and records for accreditation
  • Determining student placement and exit activities
  • Develop and follow through on academic IEP
  • Promote the School through membership and participation in professional and academic organizations
  • Represent the School to internal and external academic communities, alumni, business and industry, government, foundations, and the general community
  • Work collaboratively with the School of Online Education to develop online courses that are effective and up to date with the current online education standards
  • Make courses user friendly and well designed to have better learning outcomes  
  • Design online modules incorporating a variety of web-design and instructional tools, including HTML pages, graphics, streaming video and audio, and flash    

 Requirements:

  • Terminal Degree in a computing discipline
  • Minimum of four years of experience teaching as a Professor in a graduate computer science program
  • Five or more years of experience with Moodle or a similar LMS
  • Experience with designing and building online academic courses
  • Understanding of the mechanics of online learning and effective teaching styles
  • Ability to teach courses in at least three of the following areas at the master's level: Algorithms, Networking, Animation and Gaming, Machine Learning, and Applications Development
  • At least four years of experience in an academic administrator role
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills; excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to work with a highly diverse staff, faculty, and student body; ability to excel in a demanding, outcome oriented and dynamic work environment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to carry out projects through to completion with minimal supervision

Human Resources Manager - Payroll, Compensation and Benefits Administration

Virginia International University is seeking an experienced Human Resources professional full-time for our Fairfax, VA campus. This position will report to the Human Resources Director and concentrate on the critical review, analysis and processing of payroll and tax procedures.
Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the timely depositing and reporting of federal, state and local taxes and Workers Compensation premiums.
  • Process bimonthly, multi-state payroll using MS Dynamic GP program.
  • Ensure verification and reconciliation of all payroll data.
  • Prepare and upload 401(k) payroll deductions and 401(k) plan administration and maintenance.
  • Prepare ongoing and annual compensation reports for management.
  • Manage other Human Resources duties such as performance management process and benefits administration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 3 years of Human Resources experience.
  • Extensive experience administering payroll using both QuickBooks and Microsoft Dynamic GP Human Resources module.
  • Experience administering a 401(k) plan and 401(k) related payroll deductions.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills

Video Camera Operator and Editor

Virginia International University is seeking a full-time Video Camera Operator and Editor to engage, entertain, and captivate our audience under the supervision of our Media Department on-site in our Fairfax, VA office.
Main responsibility for this position will be transforming raw footage into final product. The shooting of videos will also be required as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, Master's degree preferred
  • 2+ years of video editing experience
  • Must have experience using After Effects
  • Experienced camera operator
  • Experienced in setup of field and studio lighting for single and multi-camera shoots
  • Experienced with audio recording equipment
  • Knowledge of video ingest and logging process, transcoding and various video codecs, formats and standards
  • Experienced in audio editing, music editing, mixing
  • Experienced with Adobe Premier preferred
  • Experience with Event Live feed
