Librarian

Virginia International University is currently seeking an experienced, customer service oriented Librarian for our Fairfax, VA campus.

The Librarian will maintain a library that successfully assists students and faculty in locating, retrieving and using the information they require to achieve their academic objectives. To attain this goal, the Librarian is responsible for managing and assisting in each of the three main areas of work related to the library operation: user services (e.g., reference); technical services (e.g., acquisitions and cataloging); and administration (e.g., policy, planning, and personnel).

Requirements and Qualifications:

•Masters of Library Science degree from a university with an American Library Association accredited M.L.S. program
•Librarian's Professional Certificate issued by the State of Virginia
•At least one year of prior experience in library or information resource center management, preferably in a higher education setting
•Excellent online research abilities including knowledge of a wide range of scholarly and public information resources
•Skilled in the use of office software application and other technology; Microsoft Office Suite proficiency preferred
•Exceptional communication skills (fluent English verbal and written skills) and interpersonal skills
•Experience working with international students preferred along with ability to work with a highly diverse group of students and staff
•Excellent organizational, time management, prioritization and multi-tasking skills
•Ability to excel in a demanding, outcome-oriented and dynamic work environment
•Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and to reach both the upper and lowermost shelves of the library bookcases

Career Center Manager


Virginia International University is seeking an experienced, dynamic, customer-service oriented, full-time Career Center Manager in Fairfax, VA.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate all Career Center events and activities.
  • Develop and strengthen relations with VIU alumni.
  • Promote VIU by researching and identifying prospective employers and develop relationships with students, alumni and VIU staff to enhance student job placements.
  • Assist students in locating paid and unpaid internship opportunities as well as job placement upon graduation.
  • Plan and implement programs and projects that strategically engage VIU alumni.
  • Organize employer information sessions, job fairs, alumni workshops, developmental workshops, mock interviews and networking opportunities among students and the local business community.
  • Supervise part time student(s).

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree required in the fields of Student Development, Student Personnel Management, Human Resources, and/or Marketing.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience plus demonstrated progressive responsibility in the area of student development or career services at the higher education level.
  • Demonstrated record of successful management.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with employers and knowledge of employment opportunities for new graduates.
  • Experience working with international students preferred as well as ability to work with a highly diverse group of students and staff.

Video Camera Operator and Editor

Virginia International University is seeking a full-time Video Camera Operator and Editor to engage, entertain, and captivate our audience under the supervision of our IT Executive Director on-site in our Fairfax, VA office.

Main responsibility for this position will be transforming raw footage into final product. The shooting of videos will also be required as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, Master's degree preferred
  • 2+ years of video editing experience
  • Must have experience using After Effects
  • Experienced camera operator
  • Experienced in setup of field and studio lighting for single and multi-camera shoots
  • Experienced with audio recording equipment
  • Knowledge of video ingest and logging process, transcoding and various video codecs, formats and standards
  • Experienced in audio editing, music editing, mixing
  • Experienced with Adobe Premier preferred
  • Experience with Event Live feed

Virginia International University is seeking a full-time Purchasing Coordinator to serve as the initial point of contact between the Business Office and departments requesting purchases. The position will process expense requests to include the tracking, research and payment, ordering, receiving, stocking and distribution of supplies to end-users. Will also make online payments and order goods as requested.

Student Affairs Coordinator

Financial Manager/Analyst

This position will be responsible for the management of financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, expense control and approval, contingency planning, internal control, financial analysis, and other finance-related tasks in support of the overall University operations. In addition, supports the University by providing financial and business analysis in the form of monthly financial memos, business reviews, business portfolio analyses, budget variance analyses, strategic planning, working capital analyses, audit and balance sheet review support, and other special projects as necessary.

Key responsibilities for the position include:

•             Active participant as a member of the financial operations staff and participating in both business and financial decisions and planning.
•             Adhere to best practices regarding financial controls and procedures.
•             Provide timely and accurate financial information to executive management in regards to forecast information, operating cash flow, accounts receivable, business development expenditures, and others. Advise executive management on financial planning and business decisions through critical assessment of financial reports.
•             Responsible for annual budget and strategic plans and for implementing annual budgets and targets into the strategic plans for the University.
•             Contribute to University and financial operations improvement and efficiency by planning and implementing long range systems.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

•             Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
•             Minimum 3 years’ experience in supervising and managing employees
•             Advanced user of both Quick Books and Dynamic GP
•             Outstanding communication skills: verbal, written, analytical, and presentation skills
•             Ability to organize, prioritize, and research multiple projects within tight deadlines
•             Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and with minimum supervision
•             Previous experience in performing fiscal planning, including creating and managing an operational budget and forecast

Preferred skills include:

•             MBA or master’s degree in a related business field
•             Previous experience in a similar role

Administrative Assistant – Continuing Education

Virginia International University is seeking a full-time Administrative Assistant to provide support to the School of Continuing Education. This position will report to the Executive Director of Business Development in our Fairfax, VA office.

Responsibilities:

  • Event planning and execution all Continuing Education planned events
  • Plan, organize and follow-up on action items from the School of Continuing Education meetings
  • Conduct needs assessment and program evaluations for the School of Continuing Education
  • Build a database for faculty and both local and international participants
  • Contact speakers, trainers and faculty to facilitate participation in events
  • Program needs assessment through surveys, focus groups and meetings
  • Conduct reviews and evaluations after all planned events are executed
  • Assist in organizing annual conference including preconference and post conference workshops

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred
  • 1-2 years of administrative experience preferable
  • Event planning experience and project management experience highly desireable
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
