Administrative Coordinator– President's Office

Virginia International University is seeking a full-time Administrative Coordinator to provide support to the President's Office. This position will report to the University's President in our Fairfax, VA office.

Responsibilities:

  • Development, support, and coordination as a representative of the President’s Office to external contacts.
  • Support and coordinate internal communication within the organization as representative of the President’s Office.
  • Support regular review of operating practices and procedures to develop and improve the University’s internal and external communication, policies, and overall public image.
  • Promote the President’s Office via traditional and social media to create awareness and a positive image. Provide internal and external press releases and agendas on behalf of the President’s Office.
  • Manage all communications on behalf of the President’s Office. Screen and respond to incoming e-mails, calls, and mail from internal and external contacts.
  • Arrange and coordinate executive meetings, visits and events in support of networking and public relations. Build relationships with external contacts on behalf of the President’s Office.
  • Coordinate all University Board of Trustee Meetings. Prepare documentation, presentations, and other reports for purposes of providing informational content that reflect the University’s public image.
  • Manage President’s Office budget and purchases.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred
  • 2-3 years of administrative experience
  • Event planning experience and project management experience highly desirable
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well within a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality

Full-Time Professor - School of Computer Information Systems

Virginia International University is seeking an experienced Full-Time Professor to teach on ground and possibly online courses, develop and design online courses and support our School of Computer Information Systems at our Fairfax, VA campus.

The Full-Time Professor will be responsible for teaching 8 - 10 courses each academic year, developing and designing online courses, supporting the School of Computer Information Systems in advising students, academic and program development, and participating in instructional effectiveness processes.

Duties Include:

  • Teaching 8-10 courses over 4 academic semesters
  • Student advising
  • Teaching and/or coordinating seminars and orientations
  • Overseeing student internships and fellowships
  • Supporting the Dean in resolving faculty/student matters
  • Providing assistance to students facing academic obstacles
  • Coordinating and/or supporting student clubs, events, and off-campus activities
  • Implementing new concentrations and majors
  • Researching and selecting textbooks for classes
  • Organizing materials and records for accreditation
  • Determining student placement and exit activities
  • Develop and follow through on academic IEP
  • Promote the School through membership and participation in professional and academic organizations
  • Represent the School to internal and external academic communities, alumni, business and industry, government, foundations, and the general community
  • Work collaboratively with the School of Online Education to develop online courses that are effective and up to date with the current online education standards
  • Make courses user friendly and well designed to have better learning outcomes  
  • Design online modules incorporating a variety of web-design and instructional tools, including HTML pages, graphics, streaming video and audio, and flash    

 Requirements:

  • Terminal Degree in a computing discipline
  • Minimum of four years of experience teaching as a Professor in a graduate computer science program
  • Five or more years of experience with Moodle or a similar LMS
  • Experience with designing and building online academic courses
  • Understanding of the mechanics of online learning and effective teaching styles
  • Ability to teach courses in at least three of the following areas at the master's level: Algorithms, Networking, Animation and Gaming, Machine Learning, and Applications Development
  • At least four years of experience in an academic administrator role
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills; excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to work with a highly diverse staff, faculty, and student body; ability to excel in a demanding, outcome oriented and dynamic work environment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to carry out projects through to completion with minimal supervision

Application Developer/Support (.Net)

Virginia International University is seeking an Application Developer/Support to join a team which supports a range of applications used within the University. This is an active position which also requires the technical co-ordination of a small team of Developers in order to deliver solutions through enhancement and maintenance of production applications.

The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills combined with solid verbal and written communication skills in order to work with other departments to deliver high-quality, high availability software solutions to meet the needs of our students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform maintenance of production application, application enhancements, and bug fixes
  • Perform support for databases including design, maintenance, performance tuning, and assurance of database integrity
  • Evaluate user needs and implement systems and solutions to best service
  • Consult with users and IT functions to diagnose and resolve complex problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • Prior experience in similar field
  • Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

Librarian

Virginia International University is currently seeking an experienced, customer service oriented Librarian for our Fairfax, VA campus.

The Librarian will maintain a library that successfully assists students and faculty in locating, retrieving and using the information they require to achieve their academic objectives. To attain this goal, the Librarian is responsible for managing and assisting in each of the three main areas of work related to the library operation: user services (e.g., reference); technical services (e.g., acquisitions and cataloging); and administration (e.g., policy, planning, and personnel).

Requirements and Qualifications:

•Masters of Library Science degree from a university with an American Library Association accredited M.L.S. program
•Librarian's Professional Certificate issued by the State of Virginia
•At least one year of prior experience in library or information resource center management, preferably in a higher education setting
•Excellent online research abilities including knowledge of a wide range of scholarly and public information resources
•Skilled in the use of office software application and other technology; Microsoft Office Suite proficiency preferred

Financial Manager/Analyst

This position will be responsible for the management of financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, expense control and approval, contingency planning, internal control, financial analysis, and other finance-related tasks in support of the overall University operations. In addition, supports the University by providing financial and business analysis in the form of monthly financial memos, business reviews, business portfolio analyses, budget variance analyses, strategic planning, working capital analyses, audit and balance sheet review support, and other special projects as necessary.

Key responsibilities for the position include:

•             Active participant as a member of the financial operations staff and participating in both business and financial decisions and planning.
•             Adhere to best practices regarding financial controls and procedures.
•             Provide timely and accurate financial information to executive management in regards to forecast information, operating cash flow, accounts receivable, business development expenditures, and others. Advise executive management on financial planning and business decisions through critical assessment of financial reports.
•             Responsible for annual budget and strategic plans and for implementing annual budgets and targets into the strategic plans for the University.
•             Contribute to University and financial operations improvement and efficiency by planning and implementing long range systems.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

•             Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
•             Minimum 3 years’ experience in supervising and managing employees
•             Advanced user of both Quick Books and Dynamic GP
•             Outstanding communication skills: verbal, written, analytical, and presentation skills
•             Ability to organize, prioritize, and research multiple projects within tight deadlines
•             Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and with minimum supervision
•             Previous experience in performing fiscal planning, including creating and managing an operational budget and forecast

Preferred skills include:

•             MBA or master’s degree in a related business field
•             Previous experience in a similar role
