Website Content Editor/Coordinator

Virginia International University is seeking an experienced, full time Website Content Editor/Coordinator to be responsible for the planning, creation and delivery of content and ongoing updates for several University web sites. The position will report directly to our President at our Fairfax, VA campus. This position will work closely with the Marketing and IT departments and co-ordinate with all other departments within the University to ensure all website content is current.

Duties:

  • Directly responsible for creating the University websites content plan
  • Sourcing the department needed to execute the plan
  • Assigning tasks/topics associated with the content plan
  • Managing project deadlines
  • Providing a final layer of quality assurance (editing) by proofreading and testing all content prior to publishing
  • Updating content on website using CSM

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in English, liberal arts, journalism or a related field
  • Strong writing and editing skills essential
  • Excellent editing and proofreading skills and marketing knowledge required
  • Knowledge of web based content management systems such as Joomla and Wordpress
  • Understanding of Search Engine Optimization

Program Coordinator - School of Education

Virginia International University is seeking an experienced full time Program Coordinator to perform a wide variety of administrative and program support activities for our new School of Education supporting the TESOL Programs and Education Programs. The position will report directly to our Director of the School of Education at our Fairfax, VA campus.

Duties will include the following:

  • Assist Director with registration, student advising and student concerns as well as  with School related events, newsletter and student communication 
  • Monitor, collect, track and maintain School documentation and resources that include but are not limited to, professional development, CAB forms, student files, end-of-term paperwork, program binders, textbook resources, classroom and faculty resources 
  • Provide support to multi-media functions including Twitter, Facebook and assisting with oversight of website content and assist in the creation of course shells on the learning management system 
  • Track expenses and prepare monthly budget summaries as well as manage the order and inventory of supplies, textbooks, and classroom materials 
  • Coordinate the start-of-term paperwork, including but not limited to: course scheduling, School calendar of events and syllabi collection and filing 
  • Monitor gradebook and attendance entry and submission by faculty on CAMS/faculty portal 
  • Manage the distribution and collection of classroom materials, take notes during meetings and produce accurate meeting minutes 
  • Conduct research on program related topics including textbooks, industry trends, areas for improvement of website content and the like 
  • Monitor trends and seek areas for development of relationships with VIU and the School’s programs with external vendors, expos, fairs and community events 
  • And, other duties as assigned

 Requirements:

  • Master’s degree with two years of administrative experience; preferably in a higher education setting

Skills and Abilities:

•           Advanced Microsoft computer skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint
•           Academic/professional proficiency of English language
•           Exceptionally strong attention to detail (data entry, text editing, document formatting, following multistep instructions)
•           Efficient time management skills and flexibility, ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines
•           Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
•           Strong work ethic and ability to work with minimal supervision while recognizing when to request assistance from supervisor
•           Ability to interact effectively with a diverse international student population and with faculty and administrators
•           Ability to summarize and synthesize information as well as research skills strongly preferred

Full Time Instructor – TESOL and Education Programs

Virginia International University is seeking an experienced full time Instructor to teach on ground and possibly online courses and support our Graduate TESOL Program and our future Graduate Education Program at our Fairfax, VA campus. Our current need is for faculty skilled in the areas of Teaching Methodology/Tactics, Research Methodologies, Primary/Secondary Specializations, General Linguistics and/or Language Acquisition Theory.

The University is rapidly expanding and committed to existing academic research and new trends in the field to provide a cutting edge educational experience for students.  VIU faculty is offered highly competitive opportunities for stipends for research/publication and assists in subsidizing faculty development with costs associated with workshops/travel for adjuncts and full time faculty. Additionally, the program's faculty/staff have a high level of collegiality and shared interest in furthering linguistic education through faculty development, research and scholarly writing.

Library Technical Assistant

Virginia International University is currently seeking an experienced, customer service oriented Library Technical Assistant for our Fairfax, VA campus.

This position will assist in maintaining our library that successfully assists students and faculty in locating, retrieving, and using the information they require to achieve their academic objectives. To attain this goal, the Assistant Librarian will manage and assist in each of the three main areas of work related to library operation: user services (e.g., reference); technical services (e.g., acquisitions and cataloging); and administration (e.g., policy, planning, and personnel).

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing library staff, including recruitment, initial and periodic training, performance appraisals, and day-to-day supervision
  • Periodically analyzing the collection to ensure currency and proper academic focus as well as to identify materials for de-acquisition
  • Selecting, acquiring, and cataloguing library materials, including online resources
  • Assisting visitors in locating materials
  • Answering student and faculty reference questions and other inquiries
  • Helping students and faculty conduct literature searches using subscription on-line libraries, other databases, print resources, CD-ROMs, and the Internet
  • Providing training sessions to student and faculty on the use of library services, particularly VIU's subscription on-line libraries
  • Keeping up to date with latest developments in the library and information science field through, for example, participation in professional groups
  • Establishing policies to guide the day-to-day operation of the library
  • Consulting and cooperating with the chairs and faculty to ensure that the library meets the information resource needs of the academic departments

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A Library Technical Assistant Certificate or Library Technical Assistant Associates degree
  • At least one year of prior experience in library or information resource center management

  • Provide assistance to the Student Affairs Director in managing the department operations.

Career Center Manager

Virginia International University is seeking a full-time Career Center Manager in our Fairfax, VA office.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate all Career Center events and activities.
  • Develop and strengthen relations with VIU alumni.
  • Promote VIU by researching and identifying prospective employers and develop relationships with students, alumni and VIU staff to enhance student job placements.
  • Assist students in locating paid and unpaid internship opportunities as well as job placement upon graduation.
  • Plan and implement programs and projects that strategically engage VIU alumni.
  • Organize employer information sessions, job fairs, alumni workshops, developmental workshops, mock interviews and networking opportunities among students and the local business community.
  • Supervise part time student.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in counseling from an accredited college required, Master's degree preferred.
