Health insurance is mandatory for all international students enrolled at Virginia International University. It is also mandatory to purchase health insurance offered through VIU. We offer two travel health insurance plans;
- Plan A: basic travel insurance plan costing $2/day with no preventive services
- Plan B: more comprehensive travel insurance plan costing around $4/day (depends on the age of the individual) covering more services e.g. preventive services, maternity coverage, etc

VIU Health Insurance
VIU has partnered with Global Secutive, LLC to offer our students affordable health care. Global Secutive is a fully licensed U.S. insurance agency that provides insurance products for the intercultural exchange market. For your benefit, safety, and convenience, Global Secutive has partnerted with UnitedHealthcare to create a reasonable and comprehensive health insurance policy for international students.

Student health insurance is renewed semi-annually. The renewal dates are for the Fall 2013 semester (September 1st - December 31st) and for the Spring & Summer 2014 semesters combined (January 1st - August 31st). The deadline for students to renew their health insurance through VIU is scheduled during the month prior to the start date of each renewal.
