Students who are not at least 18 years of age, and have not yet received a high school diploma, or its equivalent from a recognized institution on or before the first day of the semester will not be permitted to enroll in a degree program with Virginia International University.
Any student who is not at least 18 years of age, but has received a high school diploma or its equivalent from a recognized institution must meet the following requirements before enrolling in a program with VIU. As well as the student meeting all of the requirements for the program in which they are applying for, a parent or the legal guardian of the student must meet all of the following criteria:
- Must complete, and submit the Parent/Guardian Minor Consent Form (available in a student’s application portal)
- Lives within commuting distance of VIU (not to exceed 50 miles)
- Agrees to financially sponsor the student
- Will provide housing for the student while they are under the age of 18
Please Note: The only exception to the policy stated above is when a student applies for the ESL Program with VIU, the student may then participate in Summer ESL courses, only.
