The device is yours to keep if you meet the criteria below.
All qualified incoming first-semester students, VIU alumni and transfer-in students taking undergraduate or graduate classes on-campus full-time are eligible to receive a new laptop or a tablet.
HOW IT WORKS
Eligible students should claim the device of their choice at the VIU Student Accounts Office upon the completion of their course registration and payment in full. Federal Financial Aid students must have their financial aid application approved by the Financial Aid Office before the first day of classes in order to be eligible for this offer.
The device is yours to keep at no charge if you:
- Successfully registered and fully paid for 18 credit hours for Graduate Degree Program.
- Successfully registered and fully paid for 48 credit hours for Undergraduate Degree Program.
In the event a student who received the device does not meet the required conditions above, the student will be billed for the full cost of the device plus tax.
*This offer does not apply to Virginia International University employees or their family members, students receiving scholarships that are equal to 50% or more of their tuition, or students who have not satisfied their financial obligations to VIU.
All eligible students will have the opportunity to waive their right to receive free laptop or a tablet.

Q: Who is eligible to receive a new laptop or iPad?
A: Incoming first-semester students, VIU alumni and transfer-in students who take undergraduate or graduate classes on-campus full time are eligible to receive a new laptop or tablet. This offer does not apply to continuing students, online or non-credit program students (ESL, Continuing Education, etc.)
Virginia International University employees or their family members, students receiving scholarships that are equal 50% or more of their tuition, students who have not satisfied their financial obligations to VIU are not eligible for VIU Student Technology Program.
Q: What do I have to do to keep a laptop or iPad?
A: Eligible students should register and pay in full for 18 credit hours for graduate programs or 48 credit hours for undergraduate programs in order to keep a free laptop or iPad. Students, who received the device and did not meet the required condition above, will be billed for the full cost of the device plus tax.
Q: Can I return or exchange a laptop or iPad?
A: Devices distributed through VIU Student Technology Program cannot be returned or exchanged. Once students agree and receive the laptop or iPad, they are fully responsible for the device including its repair and maintenance. In the event the laptop or iPad is broken, stolen, damaged or otherwise incapacitated, VIU is not responsible in any way and will not provide a replacement.
