Student Profile: Daniela Ciocanu

One thing that I have learned in life is that plans never work out exactly the way we imagine. A year and a half ago, I was living in Moldova, a small country in Europe. Since all of my friends were applying for different universities all over the world, I decided to do the same. I hoped I would have some luck and start a new adventure overseas. After a few months, my family decided to take a vacation to the United States after my graduation.

My vacation in the US changed the plans that I was making for my life. I saw a new culture, new places that I fell in love with, and enjoyed my time in the States immensely. When my trip ended and I went back home, I was happy to continue my lifestyle as it was. That was until I received a phone call from VIU. A nice man called me to remind that I had not finished completing my online application. I remembered my trip to the US and felt that this was sign that I should study at VIU. I finished my application, prepared all the necessary documents, and here I am! After one month I was back in the US to earn my undergraduate degree in international business.

After three semesters at VIU, I have made a lot of friends from all over the world. I am learning cutting-edge ideas from amazing teachers and I have been blessed to meet a great staff that are always there to help me. Being a part of VIU is a pleasure. I love to volunteer at events and to help anyone who might need it.

I have been lucky enough to have an on-campus job in the Marketing Department, which helps me to gain experience that will go far after I complete my degree at VIU. This opportunity is a great step in my career. My on-campus job helps me to be more engaged in the student life at VIU and with the community in general. I am learning so many new things, and I have this chance of being independent at only 20 years old.

VIU is such a fun place to study. I look forward to finishing my degree with more experience, more interesting events and projects, and more enthusiastic students. I am thankful to all my teachers that motivate me every day, and also I am thankful to VIU for this great opportunity in my life!
