University Admissions Requirements

To submit your admissions documents, please follow the instructions below. Submitting incomplete or incorrect documents may delay your admissions process.

  • Original documents must be scanned and uploaded into the application portal.
  • If any document is issued in a language other than English, please provide both the original document and an official translation of the document into English.
  • Applications will be processed after the application fee has been received by the Accounting Office.
  • Bank statements must be current within 6 months from the first date of class.

Please note:

VIU has the right to request original documentation. Submission of fabricated or false documents will result in immediate dismissal of the application and will disqualify the individual from applying to VIU in the future. Documents submitted for admissions purposes will not be returned to the applicant.

General Requirements
  • Online application form
  • $100 application fee for international students (non-refundable)
  • $20 application fee for domestic students (non-refundable)
  • Copy of US passport or US government-issued photo ID
  • High school diploma/certificate (excluding special diplomas, special education diplomas, modified diplomas, applied study diplomas, adjusted diplomas, alternative diplomas, certificates of completion/attendance/participation, etc.). (CGPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 grading scale or equivalent is required. High school transcript may be requested if the diploma does not indicate the CGPA information. If your GPA is below the requirements, please review our CGPA Waiver Policy.)
  • In addition to the general admissions requirements, students who apply for federal financial aid must submit a high school diploma and/or transcript, GED or equivalent. The following documents are required for all students applying for (or currently holding) F-1 visas. These documents are also required if you are changing your visa status.

If you are currently studying at a university or college in the United States and you wish to transfer to VIU, please submit the official transcript from your current college or university along with the general requirements (see above). If you are an international student, please also submit the additional requirements for international students (see above) as well as the following documents:

After you are admitted to the university, you will receive a letter of acceptance. Your current school will need to transfer your SEVIS information. After your SEVIS information is released to VIU, we will then be able to create a new I-20 for you to study at VIU!

If you are an international student planning to bring your spouse or child with you to the US, please submit the following documents in addition to the general requirements:

If the dependent is the spouse of the applicant:

  • Copy of spouse's passport
  • Copy of marriage certificate

If the dependent is the child of the applicant:

  • Copy of child's passport
  • Copy of child's birth certificate
