General Education Department

All students studying at FXUA are expected to have the skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform in the modern, globally oriented workforce. The general education courses at FXUA provide the skills and knowledge which are crucial to an undergraduate student’s academic success in college, university, and beyond. To guarantee this student success, FXUA’s General Education Department employs a balanced approach to help students acquire the skills that are used across disciplines, levels, and professions.

Program Mission

The mission of the General Education Department is to prepare FXUA students to obtain the necessary skill set to be well-prepared for their academic programs; shape their world view as an individuals; foster engagement and motivated creativity; and to simply be able to contribute to the society as an accomplished human being.

Program Structure

The General Education Department requires completion of a total of 36 credits (12 courses) prior to graduation. Undergraduate students are required to meet the General Education Department requirements consisting of courses across six divisions: Arts and Humanities (six credits), Social Sciences and Cross Cultural Studies (six credits), Natural Sciences (six credits), Mathematical Studies (three credits), Communications (nine credits), and Languages (six credits). Students are able to choose among courses within a division unless otherwise noted by their academic program of study or school. Students should choose courses in consultation with their academic advisor who will provide suggestions for courses relevant to the student’s academic discipline.
