Fairfax, Virginia: Fairfax University of America’s (FXUA) Lecture Series is pleased to announce plans to host guest speaker Dr. Rashid Faruqee, Lead Economist (ret.) from the World Bank and discussants Councilmember Joan Cross and Financial Advisor Wennie Hanson on Monday, February 23, 2009. This event is open to the public from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Fairfax University of America’s Waples Mill Campus.

This seminar entitled “Financial Crisis of 2008-2009 in a New Global Order: Where and How it Started and When and How Can it End?” will focus on the nature and extent of the crisis, sectors and economies affected by the crisis, causes and sequential events of the crisis, and rescue programs.

Many university faculty and staff anticipate Dr. Faruqee’s lecture given the relevance of topic in today’s society. Business Programs Department Chair Mr. Rodger Powell says, “We are looking forward to the insight Dr. Faruqee can give our students and the community about the current economical situation and the global impact”.

Dr. Faruqee specializes in Development Economics, Public Finance & International Trade and Economics. He joined the World Bank in 1975. Dr. Faruqee’s vast experience includes working as the Lead Economist for Rural Development Department, South Asia, Principal Economist, Africa Region, Principal Economist, West Africa Agriculture Division in the World Bank, Country Economist, West Africa Program Department. His most recent experience (2003-2008) includes serving as a Senior Policy Adviser in Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Government of Pakistan under a project funded by Asian Development Bank. Prior to coming to the US, Dr. Faruqee held several senior government positions in planning and rural development in Bangladesh (formerly East Pakistan).
Fairfax University of America sponsors this Lecture Series to foster global communication, knowledge, and understanding. Each year the university features a diverse mix of international voices on subjects important to humanity.
