Fairfax University of America remains certified and accredited
FAIRFAX, VA. – On June 12, 2019, Fairfax University of America (FXUA) reached a “Consent Agreement” with State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) to resolve its 2018 Audit and maintain its accreditation and certification status.
The agreement was reached after a Fall 2018 Audit by SCHEV resulted in a recommendation of decertification for FXUA. That recommendation was approved by the State Council on March 18, 2019 with the proviso that the parties would seek other options. Since that time, FXUA made numerous administrative, educational and staff quality improvements and instituted a temporary moratorium on its on-line education program, which was criticized in the audit.
On May 28, the parties held an informal fact-finding conference which they reached the terms later memorialized in the Consent Agreement, namely that FXUA would (i) maintain a 3-year moratorium on on-line education and (ii) be subject to a follow-up audit by SCHEV within six months.
