Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration 2018!

Virginia International University (VIU), a private, non-profit university, has partnered with the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to host the Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at its Fairfax, Virginia campus on Friday, September 28, 2018 from 3:30 pm until 6:30 pm.  This collaborative venture speaks to our joint mission of embracing cultural diversity and honoring the contributions made by the Hispanic Community in our region.  Recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month supports VIU’s on-going Diversity Series where the campus celebrates the rich traditions and cultures that make up the peoples of our world.  VIU’s partnership with the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to host this celebration opens the door to future joint efforts that promote the continued advancement of individuals in the Hispanic community.

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.  The Hispanic Heritage Celebration will include welcome messages from Dr. Isa Sarac, President and Founder of Virginia International University, and Nicole Quiroga, President of the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.  This collaborative event between Virginia International University and Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will include a Proclamation Ceremony that declares September 28, 2018 as the day that officially honored Hispanic Heritage Month at VIU’s Fairfax, VA campus.  Guests will experience the diverse Hispanic traditions celebrated through cultural performances, exhibits, and cuisine that will be provided by VIU’s own Global Bistro Restaurant.  Donations to VIU’s Scholarship Fund will benefit students from the local Hispanic community who qualify for a scholarship to attend Virginia International University for their undergraduate or graduate degree programs.

Members of the press, elected officials, Chamber members, and Hispanic Community Business Professionals are welcome to join this festive celebration of Hispanic culture in our area.  VIU will provide activities for guests who bring their children to participate in this event.  As Virginia International University celebrates its 20th year anniversary, we extend the courtesy that “All are welcome here.” Plan to join us for this special occasion to unite as a community and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on Friday, September 28, 2018 from 3:30 pm until 6:30 pm at Virginia International University located at 4401 Village Drive, Fairfax, Virginia.
