Jessica Michel, MA
Jessica Michel received an MA in Second Language Studies from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, where she was a graduate assistant and reading/writing teacher. In addition, she taught for three years in Akita, Japan with the JET Programme and at various schools in Virginia. She also has a BA in English with a TESOL concentration from Northwest University. A strong advocate for student-centered, critically-oriented learning, she involves her students in critical discussions of current issues that promote self-expression in English about topics that are relevant to them. Her professional interests focus on assessment, curriculum development, and critical reading, and her current projects include editing a volume of student essays, investigating the use of classroom space, and analyzing vocabulary assessment. She has been honored with the Ruth Crymes Memorial Grant for her presentation on a critical reading curriculum development project at the Georgetown University Roundtable.
