Laura Prevratil, DBA, CPA
Dr. Prevratil is a Certified Public Accountant in New York and Florida as well as a Certified Fraud Examiner. Her educational background started with an undergraduate degree in fine arts (sculpture to be precise). She received an MBA in Accounting from Hofstra University, as well as a doctorate in accounting and statistics from the University of Sarasota. She has written numerous papers on auditing and also served as vice president of finance for the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) in South Florida as well as the former chairman of the Auditing and Accounting Committee and the International Taxation Committee of the Florida Institute of CPAs. She is a longtime member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). Her work history includes manager of an SEC-registered accounting firm, engagement quality control manager for a larger regional CPA firm, audit manager for one of the oldest CPA firms in Florida, senior auditor for Palm Beach County, as well as five years as revenue manager for the Palm Beach County airport system, five years as a federal agent in New York with the FDIC, and eight years an accountant and controller for construction companies in New York. She now works internationally as an auditor and tax accountant as well as a professor and lecturer. She splits her time between Florida and Italy and maintains an office in both places.
